Victoria on Friday announced 428 new coronavirus cases, smashing the previous record for the single biggest daily increase for a state or territory by 100.
Premier Daniel Andrews also announced three more people – a man in his 80s, a man in his 70s and a woman in her 80s – have died from the virus.
Of the new cases announced on Friday, 57 were connected to known outbreaks and 370 were under investigation. One other case was in hotel quarantine.
