Victorians are enjoying some re-instated freedom today. People in other states and territories will get some reprieve from coronavirus restrictions over the coming week.

The virus is still present in the general community and being passed from person- to-person so the warnings are still very much in place to be vigilant.

We’ve had the sad news in New South Wales where there’s been another death from the Ruby Princess cruise ship

In this update:

0:26 – Victoria will start to ease some restrictions. NSW will start to ease some rules involving cafes, restaurants and up to 10 people in outdoor activities on Friday.

0:50 – A position will be created in the Federal Health Department for a Deputy Chief Medical Officer dedicated to mental health.

1:03 – America’s top infectious disease expert Dr Anthony Fauci is warning of suffering and death if states reopen their economies.

1:16 – Authorities in Wuhan plan to test all 11 million residents for COVID-19 by the end of next week.

1:13 – India will spend the equivalent of nearly 10 per cent of the country’s GDP on economic relief package.

1:48 – Beijing has suspended imports from four Australian abattoirs.

6:34 – Another passenger from the Ruby Princess cruise has died from coronavirus in NSW.

9:12 – Seven new cases of coronavirus have been detected in Victoria, two of the cases have been reclassified to other states.

14:40 – Dr Anthony Fauci warns easing rules too soon could see cases spike.
