This is hilariously naive. There is a wealthy and powerful industry controlled by the American Society for Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) that works tirelessly to reduce the number of scientists qualified to work in professional clinical labs let alone college and university laboratories. In April, medical students graduated early to join the fight against the pandemic, but the ASCP has not taken action, not even a small change to allow bachelors of science graduates to sit for their medical technologist certification. This small change would have made a huge impact on turn around time for COVID-19 tests but their organization thrives by being the sole gatekeepers to laboratory science careers. Thirty years ago this was not the case when my father graduated with a B.S. in Biology from University of Texas and was able to get a job in Florida without “certification” from the ASCP, but when I graduated with a B.S. in Biomedical Sciences in 2017 I was unqualified to work in any lab in Florida due to regulations proposed by the ASCP. As someone who could readily be employed to perform the SIMPLE laboratory procedures to identify COVID-19 and has struggled with unemployment for year after year, believe me when I say the real tragedy isn’t that I’m forced to survive on minimum wage like countless other hardworking Americans, or that I work a mind-numbing humiliating and unrewarding job like countless other hardworking Americans, but that Americans are dying due to greed within the clinical and medical laboratory testing industry. The often multiple weeks people are waiting to receive their test results makes the information unactionable and ultimately leads to additional deaths.

Pool testing has been used in Eu like Germany and Italy, also in wuhan, they tested 10million people in less than 15 days using pool testing.

The pool testing was proposed several months ago in Europe, where I’m writing. But the pool testing is no use if the virus is so prevalent that almost all testing pools will have at least one covid-19 case. Sewage water testing also is going on in my country in Europe. I find it surprising that the federal government hasn’t been advocating these procedures everywhere in America. But good that they are proposing it now.
