Three women have died from coronavirus and 374 new cases of the virus have been confirmed in Victoria in the past 24 hours.

A woman in her 80s, a woman in her 90s and a woman over 100 all died from the virus overnight, bringing Victoria’s total death toll to 42 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews revealed there were 6289 active cases of the virus in the state, including 174 people who required hospital treatment and 36 In ICU.

Premier Andrews reminded Victorians mask wearing would become mandatory in metropolitan Melbourne and the Mitchell shire as of midnight Wednesday.

He warned Victorians “no one has any excuse” not to wear a mask, unless they have legitimate underlying medical reasons.

“It’s a bit disappointing to see a bit of commentary around the place about civil disobedience,” he said.

“To anyone who thinks that their preferences are more important than the health and wellbeing of every other Victorian, well, then they will receive a fine.”
